Palliative Care: A comprehensive approach to public health, is the motto of the XIV International Congress of Palliative Care, organized by SECPAL in Malaga.
Madrid, October 18, 2024.- From 17 to 19 October, Malaga becomes the venue for the International Congress of Palliative Care, organized by the Spanish Society of Palliative Care (SECPAL), under the slogan "Palliative care essential for public health" . This event will bring together experts to discuss the crucial role of palliative care in a healthcare system facing challenges such as an ageing population and the rise of chronic diseases.
The congress addresses "third wave public health", a holistic approach that recognizes the interconnectedness between social, environmental and biological factors that affect health. Health professionals discuss how palliative care not only improves the lives of patients, but also reduces the burden of serious diseases in society, integrating compassion and humanity into health policies.
Objective: To improve people's lives
The professionals gathered in Malaga agree on the need for greater social awareness of the importance of considering palliative care as a human right
During the three days of the event, good practices and experiences will be shared to strengthen palliative services, significantly improving the lives of patients and their families.
For its part, Aurora Martínez Monroy and Cristina Chis Conea, psychologists from the Psychosocial Care Team of Fundación PORQUElive within the Comprehensive Care Programme for People with Advanced Diseases (EAPS), promoted by the "la Caixa" Foundation present the panel entitled "Psychosocial Intervention in a Case of High Complexity Pediatric Palliative Care". Together with them, the work is signed by the Noelia González Páez , psychologist at the Comprehensive Paediatric Palliative Care Unit of the Niño Jesús Hospital in Madrid.
