The Foundation because Viven participates in the volunteer day of the Hospitalised Childhood Project, organised by the Red Cross Youth in collaboration with the "la Caixa" Foundation. The intervention of Cristina Chis Conea and Aurora Martínez Monroy, psychologists of the Foundation, has focused on the emotional impact of child hospitalisation and the essential role of volunteering in this context.
Madrid, October 30, 2025 – The Foundation's health psychology team because Live gives a keynote speech on how to address the emotional impact of child hospitalisation within the training days for volunteers of Red Cross Youth . The Foundation's health psychologists, Aurora Martínez Monroy and Cristina Chis Conea, also highlighted the role of volunteers in promoting a humanized and responsible accompaniment , especially in the context of paediatric palliative care.
Volunteering as an essential part of accompaniment
The conference, held in CaixaForum Madrid with the support of the "la Caixa" Foundation, brought together dozens of young volunteers and professionals from the health field to share experiences, intervention tools and good practices in accompaniment during child hospitalisation.

Training to strengthen care
The day opened with the intervention of Iciar Ancizu, Director of the Department of Humanisation of Health of the "la Caixa" Foundation, who presented the Paediatric Spaces as key humanising resources in hospitals.
Next, David Fernández, Director of the Red Cross Youth, explained the mission of the Hospitalized Childhood Project, its objectives, methodology and the relevance of volunteering in improving the emotional well-being of hospitalized minors.
Within the framework of the Hospitalized Childhood Project, promoted by the Red Cross Youth with the support of "la Caixa" Foundation , as a humanizing resource for the hospital experience, all participants agreed to emphasize that the most important thing of all is that no child feels alone during their hospital stay.
In addition, the organizers of the event identified the following main objectives of this training meeting with volunteering :
- encourage the exchange of experiences between volunteers,
- strengthen action strategies in hospitals,
- unify criteria and resources to improve accompaniment,
- and to make visible the importance of the voluntary role in pediatrics.
Emotional impact on child hospitalisation

- factors that increase anxiety and stress,
- emotional reactions according to age and development,
- family repercussions: guilt, tiredness, jealousy in siblings ...

Multidisciplinary perspective: leisure, therapeutic play and coordination
After the intervention of the health psychologists of Foundation because Live , a round table was held in which different complementary voices participated with health professionals from paediatric ICUs and representatives of different entities and non-profit organisations such as, Play Therapy Association or Eurekakids .
In this round table, it was also possible to listen to the testimony of Jorge Arévalo, a volunteer of the project, who explained to the attendees his experience within this Red Cross Youth Program.
The day concluded with an interesting collaborative work session focused on improving coordination between agents and designing a new "Technical Sheet" for paediatric spaces.
