"Paediatric palliatives: care for life" .This is the name of the last program of 'Moms and Dads' in Radio 5 . A successful title no matter how you look at it. We are very excited that this program has been broadcast on public radio and, moreover, with so much care and affection on the part of Paco Arjona , program director, and his team. They have shown a sensitivity and professionalism that we deeply appreciate.
The following have participated in the program Ricardo Martino , head of the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit of the Niño Jesús University Children's Hospital and vice-president of the Board of Trustees of PorqueViven Foundation , Ana Alcaide , social worker of our foundation, Matilde Pérez and Ana Isabel Íñigo , mothers of Valentina and Daibel , who were treated by the paediatric palliative care units of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (funded by the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation ) and the Niño Jesús Hospital (supported by the Porque Viven Foundation). Both are also members of the Family Working Group of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Palliative Care (PEDPAL) .
The program exposes perfectly What is the day-to-day life like for children, their families and the professionals who live with paediatric palliative care . The testimonies of Matilde and Ana Isabel talk about how the units that cared for their families in a comprehensive way helped them to have An orderly and normalized life , within the circumstances, which is not exempt from challenges, fears and great responsibilities.
What are the Pediatric Palliative Care and how families and professionals experience it
The professionals, Ricardo and Ana, explained the large number of needs that these children have with their families. They valued interdisciplinary work that professionals in medicine, nursing, psychology, spirituality, social work and therapists carry out daily, almost invisibly, so that families can live in the best possible conditions.
We encourage you to Listen to the full program which clarifies many concepts about what pediatric palliative care is really like and how families and professionals experience it.
We reiterate our gratitude to the program for giving voice to situations that are not very visible and with a sensitivity typical of good professionals.
Ana Isabel Íñigo Jurado (Daibel's mother and journalist).
