"Mourning for a child: the greatest transformative experience" , the title of this 'Moms & Dads' program ’in Radio 5 , which has once again counted on our entity ,this time to talk about the duel that families who have a son or daughter in a palliative situation go through. We are very grateful that we have been given the space to talk about this topic and not only from the perspective of death, but also referring to the grief that is experienced from the moment the child has a diagnosis of complex and life-threatening disease.
The following have participated in the program Ricardo Martino , head of the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit of the Niño Jesús University Children's Hospital and vice-president of the Board of Trustees of PorqueViven Foundation , Aurora Martínez , a psychologist at our foundation who specializes in pediatric palliatives, Matilde Pérez and Ana Isabel Íñigo , mothers of Valentina and Daibel , who were treated by the paediatric palliative care units of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (funded by the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation ) and the Niño Jesús Hospital (supported by the Porque Viven Foundation). Both are also members of the Family Working Group of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Palliative Care (PEDPAL) .
Talking about infant mortality is still a taboo subject.
Thanks to the program, led by Paco Arjona , it was possible to highlight the actions carried out by the comprehensive pediatric palliative care teams with families around the duel . It became visible The importance of caring for all members of the extended family , it was revealed The relevance of the spiritual dimension and it was shown that Grief can be present from the moment there is a diagnosis ; not only in the event of death.
